Actor, comedian and producer Ricky Harris passed away Monday, December 26th. His cause of death was not initially released, but it was later stated by his manager that the comedian passed away from a heart attack. Harris also suffered from a heart attack 2 years ago.

was produced by fellow comedian Chris Rock and ran for four seasons with 88 total episodes; Harris had a recurring role in 5 of those episodes from 2006 to 2008, as Malvo.

Harris, who was born and raised in Long Beach, California, received his career start World Famous V.I.P. Records alongside two of California’s greats, Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg.

The comedian’s career spans over 20 years. His first big break came in the 90s as Harris was a regular at Def Comedy Jam, in which he often addressed topics that were sensitive to black culture at that time.

Comedy came natural to Harris. In high school, he was a star football player at Long Beach Poly High School up until a knee injury, which forced him to retire his cleats. Harris took the injury in stride and turned to comedy as an outlet.

Black comedy was taking off around that time, so Harris seized the opportunity. He would go on to take the comedy world by storm. His career credits include several different movies and television shows including Poetic Justice (1993), Moesha (1996-1998), Bones (2001), Woman Thou Art Loosed (2004), and This Christmas (2007), just to name a few.

His most recent appearance was in the 2015 situational comedy movie Dope which grossed $18 million in the box office. Although he was never a household name, Harris has collaborated with many well-known in the industry. Harris’ most recent credit, as producer, comes from the action thriller Checkpoint, which is set to be released sometime in 2017.

Ricky Harris leaves behind  his mother, ex-wife Dee Barnes, and two daughters.
