Former New York Giants safety Tyler Sash has died at the age of 27, which was confirmed to ESPN by the Iowa state medical examiner’s office. Emergency services responded to a call about an unresponsive male in Oskaloosa, Iowa, around 10 a.m. CT, and he was later identified as the Super Bowl XLVI-winning athlete, who lives in Oskaloosa.
Police revealed that “Sash’s death is under investigation, but no foul play is suspected,” and it was reported that an autopsy would be performed on Wednesday (September 9).
The Giants released a statement following Tyler’s death, “We were all deeply saddened today to hear of the passing of Tyler. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tyler’s family and friends and all the Hawkeyes he was so proud to represent.”
Chicago Bears safety Antrel Rolle, who played with Sash on the Giants, mourned Tyler’s death on Twitter, “My prayers and condolences go out to @TSash family. This is heartbreaking. Feels like I am dreaming. I am literally hurting right now.”
