Warren Sapp has been arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Phoenix.
The former NFL defensive tackle was taken into custody at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Phoenix on Monday morning.
ABC15 confirmed with Phoenix police that Sapp was arrested on one count of solicitation of a prostitute and two counts of assault.
Police said Sapp met two women in the lobby of the hotel before they went back up to his hotel room. They started discussing money, a physical altercation occurred and the argument spilled into the hallway.
Sapp was transported to Phoenix police headquarters where he was questioned and admitted his involvement in the act of prostitution. He denied assaulting the females.
Officials found minor injuries consistent with a struggle on both females.
One female was cited for prostitution and released. The second female left the scene but was later located. She was cited for violating the City’s escort permit requirements and was released.
Sapp was in Phoenix to cover the Super Bowl for the NFL Network.
The 42-year-old played for the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 2013.
